Brainstorm
In this brainstorm I laid out four different ideas which have links within one another which was 'Structures'. I did automotive photography as a certain structure has been given to make a vehicle. In my photo shoots I am going to show many different structures from a badge of a car down to the engine of a car.
|
This brainstorm consisted of me linking all my four ideas together and picking what link went well with each other. They all linked in as people use cars everyday and they have been architected to fit a certain design.

Tim Wallace
The portfolio area offers different samples of Tim's work in several diverse fields of commercial photography that engage his definitive style and approach to his work.
On his automotive photography, Tim Wallace focuses on different parts of a vehicle. For example, it could be the whole body of the vehicle or just the badge of a vehicle and he also captures the interior of a vehicle. Tim Wallace also focuses on location so maybe colours can be emphasized more. Another thing Tim focuses on is lighting because different lighting can lead to seeing different perspective in a photograph. Tim also captures his subject from different angle to give different perspectives of it as automobiles can catch anyone's eye depending on which angle the photograph is taken from. |
Easton Chang
_Easton Chang offers different services in automotive photography. Easton does his automotive photography in a studio and out on the road so he is able to gain different affects on his photographs when he is presenting his photographs. He likes to carry out his photography work in a studio so he can add more to his photographs. For example, use different tools such as the sharpen, dodge and burn tool. If Easton does capture his automotive photographs outdoors, he depends on the light so much more as he has no control over it, so his photographs are taken either when its really dark at night, or when it is really bright.
Another thing that really sticks out to me in Easton's automotive photography is that he focuses on interior in the automobiles which is a idea I intended to follow through as well. |
Photo Shoot 1: Original Photographs
In this first photo shoot I took photographs of the outside of two vehicles and the interior of the vehicles. I worked with different shots such as, mid-shots, high angle shots and low angle shots. The photographs that wet well were the pictures that were taken up close by and the photographs that didn't go so well were the photographs that were taken quite far back. I also tried to get close ups of the interior but that would come out to blurry so I put the camera on the manual setting so the photograph would come out clear. This only worked with a few photographs as I had to get in really awkward positions to take certain photographs. The photographs that worked well I have edited in Photoshop so I can get the best possible photograph.
The photographs I used that were taken more far back than others, and manipulated in Photoshop personally looked good to be but wouldn't be right to use if it was used as a final piece.
The first photo shoot made me understand how to take these sort of photographs and do them better when I do my next photo shoot. For example, I can do my next photo shoot by take photographs that are more close up so I can get more detail as I'm taking the photographs.

Photoshop Effects
In these photographs I have shown the Photoshop effect on the original photographs. I have enhanced them to give the photographs more contrast, brightness, sharpened and blurred these photographs to get the best out of them, but as this was my first photo shoot I couldn't get the best photograph because sometimes the composition was right or the angle I had taken the photograph from wasn't right.
Doing the Photoshop effect were straight forward as I was just tweaking parts of the photographs instead of the whole thing or it wouldn't look how it should be.

Photo Shoot 2: Original Photographs
In these photographs, I used the same idea as I had with my first photo shoot but I had improved this photo shoot by doing more close-ups so when someone is looking at the photographs, detail is shown and will give the photograph more attention. The photographs that are shown are of different car models with different angles. So one part of a vehicle may be shown more than another part which will show a different perspective to each photograph taken.
In these photographs, I have shown very specific parts of the vehicle such as the car badge, another other badges that are on the vehicle or the wheels of the vehicles. There are a few photographs which show the full base of the vehicle because I thought I would be able to crop out parts and use just a single part but the photographs were not good enough.

Photoshop Effects
These photographs are from the second photo shoot that had taken place which have been Photoshopped. Majority of these photographs show the badges of the vehicle, badges on the wheels of the vehicle and any text that could stand out that is on the vehicle. These have all been cropped, been given different types of contrasts and different types of brightnesses to show a particular object on the vehicle.
Photo Shoot 3: Original Photographs
This photo shoot had it's good and bad parts. The good parts of the photo shoot were that the photographs I intended to get came out how I wanted them to come out, but the bad parts were that photographs may have come out too bright or the photographs didn't look right. For example, in the photographs of the engine, the photographs were taken at an angle which I didn't want to do but this was the only choice I had at the time because I was not able to take off the shell of the engine. To improve these photographs I could have taken more photographs of the same subject of the vehicle but shown it through different shots. The idea for this photo shoot was to show the essentials you need for a vehicle to run and for a car wheels, a engine and a shell for the car is essential for a car to run.

Photoshop
During this Photoshop process I had to go through different stages by cropping, changing the contrast; changing the brightness of the photographs and changing the color balance of the photographs. On a couple of photographs I had to layer the contrast and brightness to give those photographs more effect so they would be more interesting to look at.
When I was choosing the photographs that I would use for the final slideshow, I had to carefully pick photographs that would be most appropriate for this photo shoot. The photographs I had chosen for this photo shoot are significant to the idea behind it. |
Photoshop Effects
For this photo shoot I had chosen eight photographs for the final because they show detail within the photograph because of the material of the vehicles and texture that is shown. I have also shown a variety of shots which show different things such as the bonnet of the vehicle half open. Another shot I had taken a photograph from was the very last photograph showing the length of the car which also show a different variety of shots.
Photo Shoot 4: Original Photographs
In this photo shoot I completely focused on close-ups as more close-ups show more detail and would have more significance because I am showing different brands and makes of vehicles. This was the best photo shoot in composition wise as the use of close-up was used in the best way as possible for this photo shoot to come out in the best way possible.
Photoshop Effects
In this photo shoot I have taken pictures of badges and certain parts of cards. These photographs represent how cars are different from one another. The colours of the photograph have been left the same but enhanced on photoshop to give the photographs a more metallic look rather than a plain look. I have used rules of 6 in these photographs as I want to achieve different outcomes each time. The patterns in the photographs aren't as explicit as the texture of the vehicles didn't have much texture to them.
